Fervenza das Hortas. A natural waterfall at only 8 km from Pazo Santa María.
Arzúa, it has many beautiful places to visit where you can enjoy nature in its pure state.
The village of As Hortas (diocese of Dombodán – Arzúa) is only 8km from Pazo Santa Maria heading towards Orense.
En route to the waterfall at Fervenza das Hortas, you will pass the Portodemouros reservoir. Another spot with panoramic views, this time of the reservoir, the Ulla river and hydroelectric plant.
On arrival at the village of As Hortas, you will likely have to ask the way to the waterfall because there are no signposts. Which to a certain extent maintains the wooded area “virgin” and off the beaten track.
Ferenza das Hortas is a waterfall on the river Saímes as it runs parallel to a mountain “Monte dos Muiños”, occurring just before the river joins the Ulla, a landmark which forms a natural border between Arzúa and Touro.
The traditional Water Mill “Molino de los Agra” (district of Touro) offers a spectacular view as the water cascades down a 32 meter drop. The mill is constructed of natural quartz and gneiss stone and invites you to loose yourself to images of years gone by. A recommended day trip.
The site is also known locally as “The Waterfall of St. Marta”: As local legend has it, a young girl heavy with an unwanted pregnancy was pushed from from the top of the waterfall by her partner. On falling, she cried for help to St. Marta …. and a fallen oak miraculously broke her fall, saving her life.
